Rich Dauer passes away at 72, claims report

The announcement of Rich Dauer’s death was made by his friend and former teammate Jim Palmer.

Palmer, who was an Orioles pitcher and fellow Hall of Famer, shared the unfortunate news via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. He wrote, “My long time teammate Richie Dauer passes. Was part of the Oriole way, where you didn’t have to be a star to help the O’s win.” Albeit, Palmer did not reveal a cause of death.

Jim Palmer further described Dauer as a person with an “infectious personality” and “focused.” The former pitcher also talked to The Baltimore Banner and asserted that Dauer was loved by everyone in the Orioles camp. He added, “He’ll be missed, because he had such a vibrant personality.”

Rich Dauer’s stint in the Baltimore Orioles spanned 10 years from 1976 to 1985. During his tenure, he hit 43 home runs and scored 6 stolen bases. Dauer then became the first base coach for the Houston Astros in 2015 and worked with them till 2017.

Meanwhile, Baltimore Orioles also mourned Rich Dauer’s passing in a post on X. They mentioned, “We mourn the passing of Orioles Hall of Fame second baseman Rich Dauer, who spent his entire 10-year career with the O’s. We send our deepest sympathies to the Dauer family as well as his many teammates and friends.”

Furthermore, Houston Astros commended the former coach for being part of their side that won the World Series in 2017. They further added in their post, “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of former Astros coach Rich Dauer.”
