Stephen King names It: Welcome to Derry and four more for Halloween viewing
As the Halloween season begins, Stephen King has revealed a series of recommended television shows and movies for the season. He highlighted five adaptations of his works that he considers perfect for the occasion.
In a post on Threads, King wrote, “Need some Steve King for Halloween? Gotcha covered.” He listed The Institute (available on MGM+ and Prime Video), 1922 and Gerald’s Game (both on Netflix), Lisey’s Story (Apple TV+), and It: Welcome to Derry (HBO Max). The author concluded with, “You can find other stuff, too. If you’re brave enough.”
The author’s recommendation for It: Welcome to Derry comes just as the series debuts on HBO Max. Set in 1962, the prequel is set in the fictional town of Derry, exploring the origins of Pennywise’s terrorization of the town, with Bill Skarsgård reprising his role as the iconic clown.
Beyond his recommendations, King recently discussed his current projects in an interview with USA Today. This includes a new installment in Never Flinch, the Holly Gibney detective series, and a third installment following The Talisman and Black House. He said, “I’m trying to clear my desk as much as I can. At my age, you’re off the warranty. You can’t take anything for granted.”
Despite his ongoing workload, King says he hopes to slow down soon. The author emphasized, “You can’t guarantee anything once you get past the age of 75, 76. So you’ve got to be a little bit careful. Anything can happen to anybody.”
