Celebrity Deaths: 2025’s Fallen Stars
Masika Kalysha is mourning a tremendous loss.
The Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood star's estranged husband Jamar Champ died after a car accident in Houston, Texas, on Oct. 28, the Houston Police Department confirmed in a press release. He was 38.
Champ—whose family confirmed his identity to KHOU 11—was in his Tesla Cybertruck when he was hit head-on by a silver BMW that was traveling the wrong way on the freeway, the press release noted. The BMW caught fire after the impact, while the Tesla slammed into an 18-wheeler.
Champ was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead. The male BMW driver was pronounced dead on the scene and the truck driver was not injured, the announcement also added.
Following the devastating news, Kalysha—who shares 3-year-old daughter Amari with Champ—confirmed her estranged husband's death in an emotional message.
"It is with profound sadness that I confirm the news of the tragic and unexpected passing of my spouse and father of my beautiful daughters, Jamar Champ," she shared in a statement to The Shade Room. "During this incredibly challenging time, I kindly ask for respect and understanding as our family comes together to support one another and honor his memory."
She concluded, "Your thoughts, prayers and love mean the world to us as we navigate this devastating loss."
The reality star—also mom to daughter Khari, 9, with Fetty Wap—shared insight into the night she heard the news.
"God woke me up at 2:00 am," she wrote on X. "I couldn't sleep. I didn't know why. Jesus Christ, I just received the worse news of my life. Pray for me and my kids please."
Kalysha previously shared that she and Champ, who tied the knot in 2021, had been separated "all of 2023."

"The only reason I'm not fully divorced is because, well, that's on the way," she explained in a December 2023 Instagram Live. "There's no reason for me to share my personal business. But when other people try to paint a picture in order for them to get attention off of the life I have created for myself by myself—it's just asinine and it's sad."
"I have no reason to discuss anything else further,” she continued. “Just know that your girl is happier than she's ever been. There is absolutely nothing worse than being with a narcissist. First and last experience with a narcissist ever.”
By November 2024, Kalysha confirmed that she and Champ were close to divorce. She told Young, Bold and Regal that she had gone through "mediation with an ex-husband, well, soon-to-be."
