Shakira and Carín León were the big winners at Premio Lo Nuestro 2025. The 37th edition of the awards honoring the best musicians and performers across Latin music took place on February 20th in Miami. The theme of this year’s ceremony was “Uniendo Generaciones” (Uniting Generations). Reflecting the expansive diversity across genres and generations, six new categories were added this year: best dembow song, best Latin fusion pop song, best Christian music song, best “EuroSong,” Mexican music fusion of the year and best electro corrido.

The Colombian star Shakira took home six trophies including Album of the Year for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran and Pop Female Artist of the Year. Shakira accepted her Album of the Year via video since she is currently on tour. “¡Hola mi gente!” y “It is very moving for me to receive the album of the year award, it means a lot,” she said.“ This is an album that has cost me sweat, tears, many experiences, and more than two years work, so I appreciate this recognition very much.”

León walked away with five awards including Mexican Music Male Artist of the Year and Mexican Music Album of the Year for Boca Chueca, Vol.1. “Thank you very much mi gente, thank you very much to all the nominees, to all the people who are promoting Mexican music,” he said. “Long live our Mexico, long live our sounds, long live our roots, and long live Latin music. Long live Hermosillo, Sonora, compa!”

Karol G and Camilo were among other top winners, each receiving four awards. Among Karol G’s trophies were the Artist of the Year Award, her second consecutive win, and Song of the Year, for “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido.” Camilo won Tropical Album of the year for Cuatro. He also shared two awards with León for their collaboration “Una Vida Pasada” and one with his wife Evaluna Montaner for “Plis.”

The regional Mexican star Alejandro Fernández performed at the ceremony and was honored with the Premio a la Excelencia Award, recognizing his contributions to Mexican music and Latino culture.
