Jamie Lee Curtis is speaking out to address her headline-making comments on why she “hated” filming New Girl.

The 67-year-old actress had a recurring guest star role on the Fox comedy as the mom of Zooey Deschanel‘s Jess Day, appearing in six episodes total across four seasons.

During a recent appearance to promote her upcoming new series, Newlyweds, which she co-created, Jamie Lee said filming New Girl, a single-camera show, was like filming a movie, and it was “awful” and “not fun” for her.

After her comments made the rounds online, Jamie has now taken to Instagram to clarify what she said.

“As if we don’t have bigger issues facing Americans and the world at large and natural disasters and unnatural behaviors of despots than to be concerned about a flip comment picked up at a press moment promoting NEWLYWEDS @NBC,” she wrote in the caption.

“I was there gushing about a multi camera sitcom that I co-created along with Gail Lerner about a late in life love and people finding each other and marrying on a whim,” JLC continued. “It stars, Tea Leoni and Tim Daly as the couple and we are having so much fun and the audiences are loving it and I was comparing how much I liked doing the show live in front of a studio audience, which is almost like doing a play where you get immediate feedback, and to the experience of doing a single camera comedy like NEW GIRL where there’s absolutely no feedback, as you’re trying to do comedy, like a comedy feature.”

“I said it wasn’t my favorite experience although the show itself is fantastic and the team that made it are talented,” Jamie added. “Zooey Deschanel is an absolute gem of a human and said I got to play with my friend, Rob Reiner, as exes and that was sweet and lovely.”

The actress and producer concluded, “Please, let’s not waste clicks and comments and just move on to WAY more important things. That will be all.”

As she said, Newlyweds stars Tea Leoni and Tim Daly, and Jamie will have a recurring guest star role.

The series is “a later-in-life love story about a free-spirited woman and a buttoned-up professor who marry impetuously after a whirlwind courtship.”

Newlyweds is slated to premiere this fall as part of NBC’s upcoming 2026-2027 television season.
