Michelle Obama recently revealed her favorite movie of all time during a new episode of her podcast. The former first lady welcomed Elf star Will Ferrell and admitted she never gets tired of watching the beloved Christmas comedy.

During the latest episode of IMO with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson, Obama sat down with Will Ferrell. She called Elf “my favorite movie on the planet of all time, the only movie that I watch again and again and again.”

Ferrell also reflected on making Elf. He revealed the movie came shortly after leaving Saturday Night Live. “I left, I’d been there seven years and you know, you always, you know you have to leave at some point.”

He continued, “And it just felt like I’d had enough momentum, but it’s not like I had a stack of scripts waiting for me. But we were developing this one movie about a human who was raised by elves at the North Pole, and it was an amazing concept, but it needed a lot of work. And so we kind of rewrote the whole thing.”

Looking back, Ferrell admitted he never expected its lasting popularity. “But it’s such an interesting thing to have become what it’s become… I had no idea that we had like lightning in a bottle, but we did.”

Obama again shared why the film means so much to her. “It is my favorite movie of all time. I mean, it really is.” She added that she rarely rewatches movies, but Elf is different. “I don’t re-watch movies, but it is hilarious every other second. And it is so sweet. And it definitely does all the things. It presses all the buttons.”

The former first lady said she even makes others watch it with her. “So whenever I want to feel better — no, literally — and then I make other people watch it with me so that I can say, ‘Wait, here it comes.'”

More than two decades after its release, Elf remains one of the most popular Christmas movies. Michelle Obama’s latest comments show the holiday classic continues to win over her and the fans year after year.
