'Wizards Beyond Waverly Place' To End with Four-Part Event, Selena Gomez to Make Directorial Debut with Premiere Episode

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place is coming to an end.

On Thursday (April 2), Disney announced that the Wizards of Waverly Place spinoff series will be coming to an end this summer with a four-part event set to air on Disney+ and Disney Channel.

Selena Gomez, who is an executive producer on the series, will be making her directorial debut with the premiere episode, according to Deadline. She will also be reprising her role as Alex Russo.

Keep reading to find out more…Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiered in 2024 and season two ended in a cliffhanger when Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown) was got all of her childhood memories back that had been erased before she began living with Justin Russo (David Henrie) and his family. She also learned that Alex (Gomez) is her mother.

Billie’s father is the former dark wizard Damian Pennwolf, who has yet to be formally introduced on the show. At the end of season two, Damian’s father Lord Morsus (Tobias Jelinek) forces Billie to open a rift to the world of dark magic as part of a prophecy. Alex jumps through the portal with Lord Morsus and closes it from the other side to save everyone.

The new season will show Billie and the Russos trying to rescue Alex.

Here’s the logline for the four-part event: “Billie, still reeling from losing Alex at the end of Season 2, discovers that the only way to rescue her mother is to reunite with her long-lost father. As her family bands together to find Alex, Billie realizes that their combined power is the only way the Russos can defeat the evil plaguing them.”

While production for the four-part Wizards Beyond Waverly Place event begins next week, an official premiere date hasn’t been announced yet.

In an interview from October 2025, David revealed if Jake T. Austin will be return as Max Russo for the spinoff series.
