Nashville-based guitarist William Tyler has announced a new album. Time Indefinite is out April 25 via Psychic Hotline. Today, Tyler has released the opening three-song suite of the LP: “Cabin Six,” “Concern,” and “Star of Hope.” Each track arrives with a short film cut from Tyler’s family home video footage. Check those out below, and scroll down for the tracklist and album artwork.

“Cabin Six” samples an old tape machine Tyler found in 2020 while cleaning out his late grandfather’s office in Jackson, Mississippi. Tyler brought the machine back to Nashville, where he and producer Jake Davis used it to create tape loops for the opening track.

“Star of Hope,” meanwhile, was born out of an a capella hymn Tyler heard on AM radio: “I’m always fascinated by the often random origin  stories of ‘sacred melodies,’” Tyler said in press materials. “The melody of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ being an old English drinking song.”

Time Indefinite is Tyler’s first solo LP since 2019’s Goes West, though he has released collaborative works in the interim, including albums with the Impossible Truth and Marisa Anderson. He also scored Kelly Reichardt’s 2019 drama, First Cow.
