Season 2 of The Recruit is set to premiere with just six episodes, a shift from its previous eight-episode run. This decision has sparked curiosity among fans, leading many to wonder about the reasons behind the shorter season.

In this article, we’ll explore the reasons behind the shorter second season of The Recruit compared to its first.

Here’s why The Recruit Season 2 has 6 episodes instead of 8

Netflix’s The Recruit is returning with its highly anticipated season 2. However, fans may be surprised to find that the new installment consists of only six episodes instead of the eight featured in Season 1. This change is primarily due to multiple factors, including industry-wide delays, choices of the creatives involved, and challenges tied to international filming.

One of the biggest reasons for the reduced episode count was the impact of the 2023 Hollywood strikes. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA pushed back production schedules for many shows, including The Recruit. The decision to reduce the episode count was also a strategic decision made by both the studios and the creative team. Additionally, The Recruit experienced a shift in ownership, with its production studio, eOne, being acquired by Lionsgate. This change may have influenced creative and financial decisions regarding the show’s future. Beyond the ownership changes, the series required complex international shoots, with significant portions of Season 2 filmed in Korea. This further added to the challenges which might have impacted the season’s length.

This trend isn’t unique to The Recruit. Other Netflix series, such as The Diplomat and XO, Kitty, have also returned with fewer episodes in their second seasons. This is due to a combination of factors, including scheduling, budget, and creative choices.
