Director Bryan Andrews recently shared why he didn’t use any characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four in Marvel Zombies. Andrews and Zeb Wells created the R-rated 4-episode show, which is now airing on Disney+. The voice cast features Florence Pugh, Awkwafina, Elizabeth Olsen, Iman Vellani, and many others.

Marvel Zombies director Bryan Andrews recently spoke to Variety about the series and revealed why he didn’t consider adding any X-Men or Fantastic Four members to it.

The story of Marvel Zombies focuses on the world getting engulfed by a zombie plague, which also targets superheroes. After many Avengers get infected, the surviving heroes team up to fight the virus and find something to save the world.

While speaking to the outlet, Andrews conveyed that the multiverse was one of the issues why he didn’t add Fantastic Four to Marvel Zombies. He faced a similar issue when considering X-Men for the series.

Andrews said, “I would have loved to have them in, but at the time, “Fantastic Four” was so far off. They’re also in a different multiverse. Same with the X-Men. How would they get here? So there are all those questions and rigmarole.”

The director further teased that the aforementioned teams could make a debut in a potential second season of Marvel Zombies. “But, I mean, never say never. That’s why I’m hoping, if there’s a second season around, there are already a few ideas of, like, can we get extra crazy? So who knows, but it would be amazing, and it gives us just more opportunities for more zombies and crazy heroes to go down swinging.”
