Robin Roberts took to social media to reveal why she has been absent from Good Morning America lately. She didn’t appear on the Friday, May 29 episode, and was also missing at the commencement of the following week. She was temporarily replaced by Rebecca Jarvis.

GMA’s Robin Roberts has been on hiatus for a new project

Roberts shared a post on Instagram with her wife, Amber Laign, while updating fans on the reason behind her recent absence from Good Morning America. The couple seemed to be seated and took a photo of their shoes. In the caption, she revealed that they are in South Africa for the filming of her upcoming Lifetime TV movie. She added that it stars Sherri Shepherd and Dondré T. Whitfield. “The Mrs joined me on the looong flight so need a moment to sit back and count our blessings!” she further added.

The anchor is set to executive-produce through her company, Rock’n Robin Productions, a movie called Angel in the Rubble. The project will be based on the memoir Angel in the Rubble: The Miraculous Rescue of 9/11’s Last Survivor by Genelle Guzman-McMillan.

The movie chronicles a New York City worker who was trapped under the collapse of Tower One for several hours and struggled to survive. She prayed intensely to be rescued and to get a second chance at life. Her prayers are answered when a man named Paul pulls her out of danger. It’s set to come out in September (via Aegm).

This movie marks the fourth collaboration between Robin and Lifetime. Previously, under her production company’s banner, she has produced I Will Survive: The Gloria Gaynor Story, Stolen By My Mother: The Kamiyah Mobley Story, and Mahalia. Jarvis is expected to be filling in for Roberts on GMA until the hiatus comes to an end. She is the chief business, economics, and technology correspondent for ABC News. Moreover, she also anchors Real Biz with Rebecca Jarvis and hosts the No Limits podcast.
