Matty Healy’s appearance at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival has stirred speculation among Taylor Swift fans. Many believe that the 1975 frontman may have subtly referenced the pop star during his set.

Here are more details about Matty Healy’s comments and Swifties’ reaction.

Did Matty Healy make a reference to Taylor Swift?

Matty Healy left fans buzzing during The 1975’s Glastonbury Festival set on June 27 when his remarks appeared to indirectly reference his past with Taylor Swift. While performing with The 1975, Healy took a dramatic pause and said, “I want to be sincere for a second with everybody. What this moment is making me realize is that I probably am the best. I’m probably the best songwriter of my generation.”

With a pause, he added, “The best, what do we say… A poet, ladies and gentlemen, is what I am.” Healy’s comments didn’t go unnoticed by Swifties. Many saw it as a deliberate nod to Swift’s 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department. The album is widely believed to be inspired by her brief romance with Healy. The title track of that album opens with the line, “You left your typewriter at my apartment / Straight from the Tortured Poets Department.”

Healy went on to describe himself as a “generational wordsmith” while setting up the band’s next track. “I just want to remind you [for] the next couple of minutes these lyrics, this poetry I bleed for you,” he told the crowd. While the 1975 frontman never directly mentioned Swift, his phrasing caught the attention of Swift’s fans.

Adding to the speculation, Healy was seen wearing a pin featuring Peter Pan. This is a symbol he’s previously used to describe himself. Swift also references the Peter Pan metaphor in her TTPD track “Peter,” widely speculated to be about Healy.
