Euphoria Season 3 showcased the horrible side of Alamo, but it also recently revealed what shaped him into the person he is today.

The reason is tied to his mother, who emotionally manipulated both him and her partner, Preston. She eventually abandoned them for her own greed, which led Alamo to decide that he would never let any woman fool him and make him go through the same experience as his mother.

Euphoria reveals why Alamo’s mom left Preston

In a flashback scene in Season 3 Episode 6, Mama Brown is revealed to be a con artist who fools a kind-hearted Preston for money. She discovers that he’s about to get a settlement from a chemical plant accident that damaged his face. She pretends to fall in love with him while using her son to bond with Preston and continue their happy family facade. However, in reality, all she wanted was his money. When Preston and Alamo grew closer, she used the latter to convince the former to marry her.

After a beach trip where Preston was about to propose, they returned, only to find their apartment robbed. The robbery, however, was staged by her and an accomplice to take away all his money. Nonetheless, she pretended that such an incident was “bad luck” and that she shouldn’t stay with Preston. After she successfully used Preston for money, she eventually abandoned him, while he begged her to stay in his life. At the same time, she was also dating the same guy who helped her conduct the robbery at Preston’s apartment.

Rue’s narration further suggests how Alamo mother’s manipulation affected him deeply and triggered a deep sense of hatred in him towards women. “It was just one long con, and the real mark wasn’t even Preston. It was the Alamo. He believed her,” Rue stated. While Mama Brown was greedy, Preston’s love for her and Alamo was real, which is what makes the story even sadder.
