Barbera Thornhill has been going viral on social media after she was announced as Trump‘s new Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons.

Riley Barnes, the Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, shared a portrait of Thornhill that has been viewed more than 10 million times since it was posted on Tuesday morning, October 13.

“Ambassador Thornhill, welcome to the team. I’m proud to have such a dedicated leader join us as Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. Human trafficking is a grave human rights issue and a transnational crime exploiting men, women, and children for profit. We will continue to go after traffickers, protect survivors, and deliver justice for the American people,” Barnes wrote.

So, who is Barbera Thornhill?

Thornhill is a business executive and philanthropist based in Los Angeles who has served as president of the business-focused interior design firm, Impact Design.

Trump previously nominated her to be the US ambassador to Singapore back in 2019, but the nomination was withdrawn after Joe Biden took office in 2021.

Thornhill says that she worked with Mother Teresa while living in India in the 1990s. She works with many charities in the L.A. area.

Thornhill attended the University of California at Los Angeles, George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
