We have a huge update on Tupac Shakur‘s murder, which has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.

On Monday (August 31), a Las Vegas jury found Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of murder in the first degree in the 1996 murder of the legendary rapper, according to CNN.

Davis, 63, was officially convicted of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang in the killing of Tupac, who was gunned down near the Las Vegas strip on September 7, 1996. He succumbed to his injuries six days later on September 13 at the age of 25.

Prosecutors never claimed that Davis fired the shots during the 1996 drive-by shooting. Instead, they argued that he was the “shot caller” who handed the murder weapon to the gunman, believed to have been his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, or another man riding in the back seat of that white Cadillac.

They argued that Davis orchestrated the Las Vegas shooting as retaliation after Tupac and his entourage got into a fight with Anderson earlier in the night. Prosecutors pointed to Davis‘ own police interviews and his memoir Compton Street Legend, including a 2008 interview in which he told investigators he handed his nephew the gun and said his nephew was the one who fired the fatal shots.

However, Davis‘ attorneys argued that his admissions were noting more than tall tales, telling the jurors that their client was “full of crap” and that’s why he was never charged for decades.

After being on investigators radar for some time, Davis was arrested in September 2023. He is the only person ever charged in Tupac‘s 1996 fatal shooting.

Once the jury read their guilty conviction, Davis told the judge that he was going to “appeal.”

Duane “Keffe D” Davis is due back in court for sentencing on October 13. He faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
