The 55-year-old older brother of the 45-year-old former Director of National Intelligence was arrested and charged after allegedly attempting to lure children to his hotel room in Waikiki, Hawaii.
Batarti reportedly offered the kids “gum and money,” according to FOX 5.
He was charged with second-degree custodial interference following a “stranger danger” incident at a pool on July 12, according to a Honolulu police report.
The police claim that he “approached several children, including a 9-year-old boy, asked for their names, wrote them in a notebook and offered them money and gum if they would accompany him to his hotel room.”
The kids declined, and an unnamed 42-year-old woman reported the incident to authorities afterward.
A “custodial interference” charge is described as a crime that happens when a relative or caretaker intentionally takes, hides, or keeps a child (or someone who cannot care for themselves) away from their legal guardian.
The news comes one day after Batarti was also apparently arrested on July 16 on separate charges of theft, to which he pled not guilty.
Fox News Digital reached out to his father, Sen. Mike Gabbard, who declined to comment but confirmed he is receiving medical and psychiatric treatment.
“We love him, and asked him to follow the protocol at the hospital, which he says he will do. We’re praying for his speedy recovery, and would appreciate the prayers of others.”
Tulsi Gabbard resigned from Trump‘s cabinet earlier this year.
