Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayA new update has emerged regarding the future of the Transformers movie franchise.
Last month, it was reported that Michael Bay was returning to Paramount Pictures to work on a new live-action Transformers movie. Bay previously directed 2007’s Transformers, 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, and 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight.
The article from Puck also mentioned that Bay’s project, which is being written by Jordan VanDina, is “one of five or so Transformers projects in development that David Ellison and Skydance will inherit if/when the Paramount sale closes.”
What is the latest update on the Transformers movie franchise?
Shedding some more light onto the situation, Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider reports that it might not be some time before another Transformers movie formally moves into production as Paramount’s agreement with “Hasbro doesn’t require the studio to put a new movie into production until 2029.”
One of the other upcoming Transformers projects is a live-action film from Josh Cooley, who directed the animated Transformers One movie that was released in 2024. Another is the anticipated Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover that was teased at the end of 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, though there haven’t been any announcements regarding that project in a while, and Sneider says he “highly doubt[s it] will ever get off the ground.”
The other two are only described as being in “early development.”
Since departing from the Transformers franchise, Bay directed 6 Underground in 2019 and Ambulance in 2022. He recently made a documentary about a group of parkour and free running athletes, We Are Storror, that premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival.
Bay is also developing a Skibidi Toilet project. He’s additionally working on a Netflix action movie with Will Smith titled Fast and Loose.
