Coffee comes in many forms, and the best coffee scents celebrate all of them. Perhaps your perfect caffeine buzz comes from a cup of something sweet and creamy, paired with a decadent pasty in a pink-walled cafe. Maybe you like your coffee at midnight, served with a shot of rum in a candlelit lounge. Or maybe you just like dancing to “Espresso” in a cloud of caramel-drizzled, cappuccino-laced perfume created by Sabrina Carpenter herself. However you take your coffee, there’s a scent that will invigorate you with a single sniff.
“Coffee has an earthy, rich aroma, and it brings this richness to the fragrances it is weaved into,” says perfumer Sarah Horowitz-Thran. “I see this as a warm, sensual note that plays well with other gourmand notes, like the creaminess of vanilla, the sensuality of amber, or the spice notes of cardamom and clove.” Horowitz-Thran says that coffee also pairs beautifully with woody notes like oud, sandalwood, and cedar. “So sexy—definitely a nighttime fragrance,” she says. Ahead, browse the nine coffee scents that will give you a delicious olfactory buzz, whether you’re loyal to sweet scents, vibey ouds, or fragrances with a whiff of danger.

Frequently Asked Questions
Best Floral: D.S. & Durga Brown Flowers Eau de Parfum
D.S. & Durga
Brown Flowers Eau de Parfum
Allure contributor Jenny Berg holding a bottle of D.S. & Durga Brown Flowers
Why we love it: Brooklyn fragrance house D.S. & Durga creates scents based on elaborate dreamscapes and vividly imagined settings. The brand describes its Brown Flowers as “a deep brown flower perfume” that emerged from a desktop lab littered with citrus peels, dry jasmine buds, and “weird brown orchids.” The abstract floral perfume settles into an earthy base of aged musk, roots, and—at the tail end—a whiff of black coffee.
Tester feedback: “At first whiff, I wasn’t quite sure about this,” says Allure contributor Jenny Berg. “Something about it reminded me of a beach—maybe it’s the jasmine—but I also detected some bitterness. But as the scent dries down, the bitterness fades and it starts to take on a quality that feels warm and sunbathed. It doesn’t smell like suntan lotion; it smells like a tan itself—a post-vacation glow earned somewhere chic and remote, undiscovered by influencers. Mind you, nowhere in the scent’s description does DS & Durga call this beachy, but that just goes to show how personal scent is.”
Key notes: citron, Queen Anne’s lace, brown orchid, coffee flower, jasmine, aged musk, roots, coffee | Sizes: 1.7 oz
Best Sweet: Brown Girl Jane Casino Eau de Parfum
Brown Girl Jane
Casino Eau de Parfum
Allure commerce editor Sarah Han holding a bottle of Brown Girl Jane Casino
Why we love it: Like the sweetest coffee date captured in a bottle, Brown Girl Jane’s warming, spicy scent is a whirl of espresso affogato, almond foam, and golden rum cake. The blush-glass bottle, embossed with metallic, gold-rose font, looks like a vanity fixture from a posh boudoir rather than a trope from the casino floor, but the name’s not a complete, ahem, gamble. Perfumer Clement Gavarry designed the scent to evoke the heady feeling of a winning streak—and fittingly, a spritz or two of this makes some Allure editors feel like a million bucks.
Tester feedback: “Brown Girl Jane Casino is sweet, decadent, sexy, playful, and a total treat for the senses,” Allure commerce editor Sarah Han declares. “It's not my everyday scent but I love reaching for it for date nights—the notes of espresso affogato and golden rum cake wake me up, especially if it's a weekday and I'm feeling a little worn down from the workday. Hints of red rose and ruby orchid peek through as it dries down but it is a gourmand through and through—exactly what I want from a scent that embodies a night out.”
Key notes: espresso affogato, golden rum cake, almond foam | Sizes: 0.33 oz, 1.7 oz
Best Woody: Diptyque Bois Corsé Eau de Parfum
Diptyque
Bois Corsé Eau de Parfum
Allure commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann holding a bottle of Diptyque Bois Corsé
Why we love it: Inspired by tree bark in all its rugged yet soothing glory, Diptyque’s Bois Corsé smells like a coffee break taken in the midst of forest bathing. With notes of coffee, sandalwood, and tonka bean, the fragrance is equal parts earthy and refined, and it has a sillage that lingers like a trail of scent on a woodsy path. Illustrated by contemporary artist Nigel Peake, the bottle is decked with squiggly lines that recall the texture of natural bark.
Tester feedback: “Picture the most luxurious coffee shop in the world—that’s where this fragrance takes me,” says Allure commerce producer Sarah Hoffmann. “It’s primarily a woody scent, but every once in a while you get a whiff of a deep roasted coffee note like the scent is lingering on your clothes after you just spent the afternoon lounging in a wood-paneled café. The coffee scent really comes out the longer you wear it too, I love how much more prominent it gets after wearing it for a while.”
Key notes: Arabica coffee, sandalwood, tonka bean | Sizes: 3.4 oz
Best Gourmand: Maison Margiela Replica Coffee Break Eau de Toilette
Maison Margiela
Replica Coffee Break Eau de Toilette
Why we love it: Designed to capture the smell—and the energy jolt—of a coffee break, Maison Margiela’s Replica Coffee Break opens with coffee wrapped in red apple, lemon, and lavender. As it dries down, the eau de toilette takes on a cozier quality, draping the skin in a veil of milk mousse accord and musky woods.
Key notes: coffee, red apple, lemon, lavender, spearmint, orange flower absolute, milk mousse accord, sandalwood, cedarwood | Sizes: 3.4 oz
Best Rose: Tom Ford Cafe Rose Eau de Parfum
Tom Ford
Cafe Rose Eau de Parfum
Why we love it: Tom Ford’s sensual Café Rose puts an unexpected twist on rose, dipping its petals into a pool of dark coffee. Laced with heady notes of ylang-ylang and patchouli, the intoxicating eau de parfum gets a kick of spice from notes of coriander and cardamom. And since it wouldn’t be Tom Ford if it weren’t impeccably dressed, the fragrance comes in a dusky-rose, textured glass bottle with a violet bronze cap.
Key notes: rose, ylang-ylang, coffee, coriander, patchouli | Sizes: 1 oz, 1.7 oz, 3.4 oz
Best Oud: Kayali Oudgasm Cafe Oud Eau de Parfum
Kayali
Oudgasm Cafe Oud Eau de Parfum
Why we love it: One of the rarest, most expensive ingredients in perfume, oud—derived from tree resin—has an earthy, mysterious, and calming smell. Nicknamed “wood of the gods” and often used in spiritual practices, the note is a favorite of Kayali founder Mona Kattan. Her Oudgasm range pairs the traditional Middle Eastern note with other scents; in Café Oud, cappuccino mingles with the woody note; the scent also has geranium, rose, white musk, and vanilla.
Key notes: cappuccino, rose, oud | Sizes: 1.7 oz
Best Powdery: Dolce & Gabbana The Only One Eau de Parfum
Dolce & Gabbana
The Only One Eau de Parfum
Why we love it: Designed by French perfumer Violaine Collas, Dolce & Gabbana’s The Only One wraps coffee in a powdery garden of violet and Moroccan iris. While violet has a sweet scent, the iris adds a sensual, musky, and slightly spicy quality to the mix. Displayed in a clear, weighted glass bottle, the perfume has a golden-peach glow that’s meant to capture its warming, lean-a-little-closer vibe.
Key notes: violet, coffee, Moroccan iris | Sizes: 3.3 oz
Best for Date Night: Chris Collins Long Kiss Goodnight Eau de Parfum
Chris Collins
Long Kiss Goodnight Eau de Parfum
Why we love it: Spiked with pink saffron, passionfruit, rose, amber, and oud, Chris Collins’ Long Kiss Goodnight has the opposite effect of a brew that leaves you jittery. Instead, it invites you to linger in an aromatic cloud that’s floral, woody, and creamy, with a sillage that hangs around, too. Ideal for date night—or any setting with candlelight and a little cachet—the fragrance is playful with a dash of spice.
Key notes: passionfruit, coffee bean, rose, amber, oud | Sizes: 1.69 oz
Best Liquor-Based: Kilian Paris Black Phantom Memento Mori Eau de Parfum
Kilian Paris
Black Phantom Eau de Parfum
Why we love it: For those who would take a skull clutch over a Birkin bag any day, Black Phantom is sure to be a hit. With notes of rum, coffee, and vetiver, the perfume also has a sly touch of (synthetic) cyanide accord. Unlike the poisonous cyanide that peppers the pages of dark Victorian novels, the perfume note of the same is mercifully not harmful like its namesake; rather, it’s an accord that has a sweet, slightly bitter scent, like bitter almonds. Inspired by a pirate’s journey over dark and stormy seas, the woody gourmand dries down with surprisingly cozy notes of dark sugarcane with creamy sandalwood. The perfume comes in a black-lacquered bottle with an engraved plaque. If you want to amp up its dangerous intrigue (or get an extremely chic Halloween gift) the brand also sells it in a tasseled black coffret.
Key notes: rum, coffee, vetiver, cyanide accord, sugarcane, sandalwood | Sizes: 1.7 oz, 3.4 oz
Best Luxury: Mind Games Grand Master Extrait de Parfum
Mind Games
Grand Master Extrait de Parfum
Why we love it: With a heart of dark Kona coffee, Mind Games’ Grand Master opens with deceptively sweet notes of peony and blackcurrant. Myrrh and ebony wood give the extrait de parfum an earthy, velvety quality, while panettone brings a sophisticated gourmand touch. Meanwhile, a trail of incense wafts beneath it all. Resinous, floral, and meditative, the luxurious perfume has a chameleonic quality that’s nearly impossible to pin down—perhaps it’s playing a bit of a mind game with us.
Editor's note: Extrait de parfum is the most concentrated type of fragrance. It typically contains 20% to 40% fragrance oil while an eau de parfum has 15% to 20%—so it's going to hit you harder. If you're in the mood for something a tad lighter, Mind Game Prodigy (still an extrait de parfum) is a floral woody scent with a subtler coffee note, creamy caffe latte.
Key notes: blackcurrant, peony, Kona coffee, rose, wild violet, incense, myrrh, incense, panettone | Sizes: 3.4 oz
Best Budget: Sabrina Carpenter Me Espresso Eau de Parfum
Sabrina Carpenter
Me Espresso Eau de Parfum
Why we love it: Like an ice cream sundae you can inhale, Sabrina Carpenter’s gourmand Me Espresso is as addictive as one of her bops. When the chanteuse sings “Soft skin and I perfumed it for you” in the eau de parfum’s namesake song, one can only imagine her dancing around in a cloud of this feminine fragrance. In baby-blue packaging inspired by a candy bar, the budget-friendly scent is just the thing to cap off Carpenter-style curtain bangs, flushed cheeks, or any outfit littered with bright red lip prints.
Key notes: espresso bean, night-blooming jasmine, vanilla orchid, caramel, amber, whipped cream | Sizes: 2.5 oz
