How is The Mandalorian and Grogu box office performing so far?
Deadline reports that The Mandalorian and Grogu collected $12 million from its Thursday previews. In comparison, Solo: A Star Wars Story, the franchise’s biggest flop, made $14.1 million in its Thursday preview. The report reveals that the film’s future performance is comparable to that of Solo, Captain America: Brave New World, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
For context, Solo: A Star Wars Story collected $84 million over its three-day opening weekend and $103 million over the four-day Memorial Day stretch. The Mandalorian and Grogu releases during the same window, giving analysts a useful benchmark for gauging the franchise’s health. Solo: A Star Wars Story ultimately went on to make over $392 million at the global box office. If The Mandalorian’s latest adventure continues on its current box office trajectory, it could end up with a similar box office total.

The film currently stands at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes, counting 190 reviews. That said, the film seems to be faring better with audiences, earning an 88% cscore from over 1000+ verified reviews. ComingSoon‘s Jonathan Sim deemed it “an inoffensive romp that manages to make Star Wars feel unimportant.” For comparison, Solo: A Star Wars Story stands at 69% counting 490 reviews, with audience reviews sitting at 63%.
The film will be followed by Star Wars: Starfighter next year. Besides theatrical movies, there are plenty of Star Wars projects in the works. While some of its actors want a sequel, there are good reasons to avoid one.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, and its screenplay is written by Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Noah Kloor. The film is produced by Favreau, Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.
