Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne, who plays “The Jackal” / Alex Duggan in The Day of the Jackal, gave an update about Season 2 during a recent interview. Season 1, comprising 10 episodes, originally aired between November and December of 2024. A couple of weeks after the show’s debut, it was renewed for a second season.

The Day of the Jackal Season 2’s release date could still be over a year away

Redmayne hinted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that it might be a while before The Day of the Jackal returns with Season 2. When asked about the sophomore season, the actor said, “I can literally say nothing.” He then stated that he had read some scripts for the upcoming group of episodes, potentially indicating that the second season is yet to enter production and that its release date could still be over a year away. “I was so proud of what we’ve worked on, and I’m so excited to see if we can push it to another level,” he added.

In the same interview, Redmayne noted that being cast in a show like The Day of the Jackal was “an actor’s dream.” He continued, “I describe this show as a sort of actor’s playground, all the things that when you are little and the reason you get into acting [like] changing your voice, doing accents, doing languages, changing the way you look, makeup, stunts, all of that really, but also this quite intense depth of emotion. It had everything. It was a very easy yes for me.”

The Day of the Jackal is a modern adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s 1971 novel and its 1973 cinematic adaptation, featuring Edward Fox as the Jackal. Besides Redmayne, the cast includes Lashana Lynch as Bianca Pullman, Úrsula Corberó as Nuria, Chukwudi Iwuji as Osita Halcrow, and Khalid Abdalla as Ulle Dag Charles.

Notably, Redmayne won the Best Actor Oscar in 2015 for portraying Stephen Hawking in James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything. He received his second Best Actor Oscar nomination in 2016 for playing Lili in Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl.
