The Academy will finally award Glenn Close, Ridley Scott, and other notable people honorary Oscars later this year. Notably, Scott and Close have received nominations for their work in the past.

Who is receiving honorary Oscars from the Academy this year?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts recently announced that honorary Oscars will be presented to veteran actress Glenn Close, celebrated director Ridley Scott, and animator Floyd Norman this year. Meanwhile, producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.

As per the press release, the statuettes will be presented at the Academy’s 17th Governors Awards. Scheduled for November 15, the ceremony, in partnership with Rolex — the exclusive watch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — will take place in the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

Close, who has credits in over 100 films and television shows, has secured eight Oscar nominations. She first received a Best Actress in a Supporting Role nod for her work on her debut film, The World According to Garp. The 79-year-old later secured two more Best Supporting Actress nominations for The Big Chill and The Natural. She later landed Best Actress in a Leading Role nominations for Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, Albert Nobbs, and The Wife, before receiving another Best Supporting Actress nomination for Hillbilly Elegy.

Meanwhile, Norman, who made history as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first black animator in 1956, has worked on multiple classic films. His filmography includes titles like Sleeping Beauty, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Mary Poppins, and The Jungle Book. Furthermore, the storyboard artist had lent his talents to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Toy Story 2, and Mulan.

Finally, Scott secured Best Director nominations for Russell Crowe‘s Gladiator, the Susan Sarandon-Geena Davis buddy comedy Thelma & Louise, and the epic war movie Black Hawk Down. Matt Damon‘s The Martian, directed by Scott, was also nominated for Best Picture.
