Swifties are revisiting Taylor Swift’s decade-old feud with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler that began at the 2013 Golden Globes. After the comedy duo joked about Swift’s dating life, the singer famously responded to the punchline in an interview, invoking a “special place in hell” for women who don’t support other women.

The “Cruel Summer” crooner reconciled with Poehler years later at another Golden Globes ceremony. However, the status of Swift’s relationship with Tina Fey remains unclear.

What happened to Taylor Swift and Tina Fey?

Taylor Swift’s feud with Tina Fey began at the 2013 Golden Globes, where Fey joked about her dating Michael J. Fox’s son.

Fey further advised, “She needs some me-time to learn about herself.” The joke didn’t sit well with Swift, who later addressed it in a Vanity Fair interview. Speaking about “mean girls” and the infamous moment, Swift said, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women,” quoting former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

She also commented on the criticism she received about her dating life: “For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her—I think that’s taking something that potentially should be celebrated.”

Later, Poehler and Fey responded to Swift’s remarks. While Poehler said she “felt bad” Swift was upset, Fey responded more casually. She told Entertainment Tonight, “I did not see that one coming. It was a joke, and it was a lighthearted joke. And it’s a shame that she didn’t take it in the crazy-aunt spirit in which it was intended” (via THR).

Poehler also told The Hollywood Reporter, “Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist, and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.”

A year later, at the 2014 Golden Globes, Fey referenced the comment again when Poehler won Best Actress in a TV Comedy. Fey joked, “I love you, and there’s a special place in hell for you!” In 2020, Poehler and Swift reportedly reconciled at the Golden Globes.
