Ambient intelligence company Surgical Safety Technologies (SST) has rebranded as Aimbient, reflecting its expansion beyond operating room safety into AI-powered intelligence across the full procedural care environment.

According to a July 7th press release, the company's platform combines predictive, real-time, and retrospective insights using video, audio, and device data to help hospitals improve operational efficiency, patient safety, and clinical quality across operating rooms, catheterization labs, endoscopy suites, labor and delivery units, trauma bays, and recovery areas.

According to the company, its AI models have been trained on more than 15 million hours of procedural data collected over a decade. Aimbient says its platform is now deployed in 450 procedural rooms across North America and Europe, with hospital customers reporting reductions in operating room idle time and staff overtime, along with more accurate predictions of procedure duration.

The company said the rebranding reflects its goal of extending ambient AI beyond documentation to provide continuous intelligence before, during and after procedures, supporting clinical teams with workflow optimization and quality improvement.

"We built this technology because, as surgeons, we knew we couldn't improve what we couldn't objectively measure," said Teodor Grantcharov, M.D., Ph.D., founder and CEO of Aimbient, in a statement. "What began as a way to help surgeons learn and improve has become something much bigger. Today, health systems don't just see what happened in a case; they have the intelligence to run every one better. Our vision is a world where every procedure advances the next."

"Bringing actionable insights together from across the procedural environment gives our teams a clearer view of opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen patient safety, and enhance the overall care experience,” said Sam Wald, M.D., MBA, CMO and SVP, Perioperative and Interventional Care at Stanford Health Care, in a statement. “Having that intelligence in one place helps us make better decisions and drive meaningful operational and clinical outcomes."
