Destin Daniel Cretton says Brand New Day is better if fans don’t know Sadie Sink’s role

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Destin Daniel Cretton was asked whether the secrecy follows the same approach as Spider-Man: No Way Home, which kept the iconic reunion of all Spider-Man actors under wraps before release. The director answered otherwise.

“I don’t think there’s any way of trying to emulate the last movie. In terms of stakes, you can’t really go bigger than that last movie,” he said. Instead of going over No Way Home, Cretton explained that the creative team wanted to take a different approach. He added, “So rather than trying to go bigger, we were hoping to go deeper in a different way.”

Revealing why Marvel has kept Sadie Sink’s role confidential, he described the decision as all about preserving the audience’s experience. Cretton said, “Keeping what Sadie’s doing under wraps, you’ll honestly understand when you see the movie. The movie is a better movie if you don’t know certain things.” The director also added that he wants the audience to watch the movie without knowing much about the plot beforehand, which will make the movie more enjoyable.

According to the director, the goal behind the secrecy is simple: “I want everybody to have the best experience when they go watch this movie. And whoever goes on opening weekend, you are going to have a much cooler experience if you go in not knowing certain things.”

While fans build up theories about Sadie Sink’s undisclosed role, Cretton’s comments encourage fans to watch the film to see the surprise themselves without any spoilers. The director also hinted that fans would have much more to talk about than just Sadie Sink when the movie releases.
