Shia was arrested in February 2026 in New Orleans after police say he became aggressive during Mardi Gras festivities, leading to multiple charges of simple battery. According to NBC News, authorities were called to a bar on Royal Street shortly before 1 a.m., where he allegedly struck at least two men outside the establishment and was taken into custody. Video and witness accounts from the scene noted Shia’s confrontational behavior, and one alleged victim reported being punched “multiple times.”

After his initial arrest on February 17, additional alleged victims came forward, leading to a second arrest on February 28 on a related simple battery charge. Shia later surrendered to authorities in connection with that warrant.

During a subsequent court hearing, a judge ordered Shia to undergo drug and alcohol treatment, submit to weekly screenings and comply with other conditions as part of his release. At the hearing, his attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, argued, “Frankly, being drunk on Mardi Gras is not a crime.” The case remains ongoing as of early March 2026.
