Severance‘s executive producer and primary director Ben Stiller recently gave an update about when the viewers could expect Season 3 of the Apple TV+ sci-fi psychological thriller series. The show premiered on February 18, 2022, with Season 1 wrapping on April 8, 2022. There was a long intermediate period between the premieres of the first and second seasons, with the latter premiering on January 17, 2025. Now, the sophomore season finale is streaming on Apple TV+.

Ben Stiller says Severance Season 3 is ‘definitely not’ three years away

Ben Stiller clarified in a new interview that viewers wouldn’t have to wait three years for another season of Severance. During his appearance on the New Heights podcast, co-host Travis Kelce asked him about it. “No, no, the plan is not—definitely not,” Stiller said in response. “No, the plan is not, and hopefully, we’ll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that,” he added.

Since its premiere, Severance has drawn overwhelmingly positive responses from both the critics and general viewership. Season 1 currently has a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 117 reviews. Meanwhile, Season 2 has a 96% approval rating after 190 reviews. Severance had reportedly become the most-watched Apple TV+ series following the debut of Season 2, outperforming Ted Lasso. (via Deadline)

Notably, Apple hasn’t officially announced Severance’s third season. But given what Stiller said and the performances of the previous two seasons, it’s likely a matter of time before that happens.

Created by Dan Erickson, who also serves as the showrunner, Severance predominantly revolves around a certain group of employees of Lumon Industries. They work on classified projects and have undergone the eponymous medical procedure, splitting their work life from the one beyond. The cast includes Adam Scott as Mark Scout, Zach Cherry as Dylan George, Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick, Britt Lower as Helly Riggs, John Turturro as Irving Bailiff, and Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman.
