Children who have cerebral palsy often experience muscle tightness or spasticity. This results in stiffness, reduced range of motion and pain, all of which impact daily activities and mobility. Selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) is a treatment option for these symptoms. In May 2025, Sydney had SDR surgery performed by pediatric neurosurgeon Shenandoah Robinson.
