Introducing Rummy Snap – a strategic rummy game unlike any you have ever seen. Rummy Snap utilizes 55 octagonal-shaped, firm rubber, interlocking tiles that mimic the behavior of the playing cards in a classic 52 card deck. Challenge your friends and family to be the first one to use all your tiles by forming gin rummy style sequences and sets. Rummy Snap is an amalgamation of numerous table game classics: part Gin Rummy, part Uno, part Mexican Train Dominoes, and part jigsaw puzzle. Aspects of Gin Rummy: Players create or build upon sequences of consecutive tiles of the same suit (a run) or sets of two or more tiles of the same rank (a set). As in Gin Rummy, players strategize their tile (card) play to maximize their run and set creations while minimizing the number of turns to rid themselves of their tiles and thus claim Gin (Rummy Snap).

Initial Thoughts:
I like card games, and Rummy in particular; there’s something about the set collection aspect of Rummy that is highly appealing to me. So, a new version of Rummy is intriguing. Since I already know how to play Rummy I figured I could pick up the game real easy. I typically play Rummy in a duo / duel setting, so I wasn’t sure if I would like a similar new game at a 3 or 4 player count, but I was willing to give it a try.
Rules & Setup:
The rules are on a single page printed front and back, but then Rummy doesn’t have a bunch of rules. The rule book includes instructions for how to play Rummy and how this game is different. Examples of different situations are provided, are easily understandable, and help to clarify situations that are different from a regular game of Rummy.
The setup is super simple. The tokens are placed face down and shuffled. Each player takes 10 tokens in a 2-player game or 7 tokens in a 3 – 4 player game. Players draw and reveal one other token and the player with the highest token is the start player. Those drawn tokens are shuffled back into the pool.
Theme and Mechanics:
Rummy Snap is a tile based version of the card based Rummy. You have a hand of tiles instead of cards that you play into the center of the table.
On a player’s turn they may play tiles that make a valid run or set based on Rummy rules. A player may extend or use tiles already in play to make a valid move. If a player cannot make a valid move, they simply draw a new tile and add it to their hand; however, if they can now make a valid move they may do so.
When a player is playing tiles, prior to placing the last tile out of their hand they must announce “Rummy Snap.” If they can play their last tile the game is over and tiles are scored, similar to Rummy. The player with the lowest score wins.
I’ve played quite a bit of Rummy, it’s one of the game apps I regularly play on my phone, so a game based on Rummy is right up my alley. I wasn’t sure what to expect with how this game would be different from Rummy. It could mess with the rules so much that I would prefer Rummy and just not want to play the game, or it could be good. Happily it was the second one. I found myself falling back into habits I have while playing the card based version of Rummy, but then realized they may not work since I could also utilize what was already in play in a variety of ways. It was an interesting twist on the game. If you like Rummy, you will likely enjoy Rummy Snap. Give it a try.

Grew up loving to solve puzzles, play games. In younger years he had fun playing pencil games, playing D&D with friends, and hanging out with others. His favorite thing to do was to make puzzles, mazes, word games, picture games, etc. Sadly his career took him in a different direction. Gaming came back into his life, though, about 15 years ago & held onto it since. He enjoys designing games and has 9 published titles, through, Toresh Games. Sadly he wasn’t able to sustain the company. He would love to see a return to games as the best social media platform for the masses.
