Mychal Threets is sharing a new update on his mental health.

Earlier this week, the 36-year-old librarian and Reading Rainbow star revealed that he was checking himself into a hospital amid concerns for his emotional wellbeing.

On Saturday (August 22) Mychal shared a video on Threads where he shared a new update following the five-day psychiatric hold.

“I just wanted to apologize for worrying so many people,” he began. “I just got back from a five-day stay at the hospital, a five-day psychiatric hold. I haven’t been OK for what feels like a very, very long time. I am not OK, but I have hope I will get to OK. I am on the struggle bookmobile.”

While it may take a while for him to start feeling like himself again, Mychal thanked those around him for their continued support.

“It’s gonna take a long time for me to be OK,” he said. “It’s going to take a long time, but I just wanted to say thank you to the multitude of doctors, nurses, and mental health workers I saw. It’s not enough but thank you. You saved my life.”

He continued, “Thank you to my family and friends. Thank you to you. 3-6-9, it’s okay to not be fine. We’re struggling. We’re human beings. We’re doing our best. Thank you for being you. Thank you for staying. Maybe I’ll see you at the library.”

In a follow-up post, Mychal wrote, “There are no right words to express my gratitude for the extraordinary mental health care, the help, I received while on a voluntary psychiatric hospital hold. Human empathy, kindness, care. Blessed to continue receiving help to journey towards ok via an intensive outpatient program. But mental health help is far too expensive.”

“It should not be,” he continued. “We should not have to worry about being able to afford help. This must change. I am worthy of help, you are worthy of help, we are worthy of help.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255), visit 988Lifeline.org, or text the Crisis Text Line at 741741.
