Marvel Studios has already renewed one of its biggest animated hits for Season 4. The update reveals strong confidence in the series. It also hints that Marvel Animation‘s popular TV show will remain a major focus on Disney+ for years to come.

What Marvel and Disney+ TV show has been renewed for Season 4?

Following the exciting trailer debut of X-Men ’97 season 2, the show’s creators have confirmed that it will continue for four seasons “at the very least”. The update comes from a bit buried in an Entertainment Weekly article.

“They want everyone to know it’s only gonna be a year now between seasons, not two-and-a-quarter years,” said Larry Houston, Executive Producer on X-Men ’97. “It’s gonna be a year until the next one and a year until the next one [after that]. They are on schedule now. One of the reasons they’re on schedule is we’ve gone over, given notes on, responded to not only all the scripts for season 3, all the animatics for season 3, we are in season 4 giving script notes. So that’s how deep they are into the development.”

X-Men ’97 is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran for five seasons. Following the latest update, it’s likely that X-Men ’97 may surpass the original show’s run should it continue past season 4. Houston’s comments suggest that future seasons of the show will arrive on a yearly basis. Following that timeline, X-Men ’97 season 4 would arrive in 2028 or 2029, depending on the scheduling.

Marvel Studios is also moving forward with its live-action X-Men reboot. Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier will helm the X-Men reboot. The film is being written by The Bear’s Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin.

X-Men ’97 releases on July 1, 2026, on Disney+. A third season is already in production.
