The first trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ new Playdate film has been released.

Playdate is a forthcoming action comedy movie coming to Prime Video next month. Directed by Luke Greenfield, the movie stars Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, Kevin James, Isla Fisher, Alan Tudyk, and more.

What happens in the Playdate trailer?

The Playdate trailer sees James’ character, Brian, agree to a playdate with stay-at-home dad Jeff, played by Ritchson, and their two sons. While he’s expecting a casual afternoon, Brian is instead “thrust into a chaotic scramble to stay alive as they are pursued by a ruthless team of mercenaries.”

The synopsis continues, “Brian stumbles through one ridiculous obstacle after another, his zero tactical skills a stark contrast to Jeff’s oddly prepared demeanor. Director Luke Greenfield (Let’s Be Cops, The Girl Next Door) hilariously collides suburban dad life with high-stakes thrills, transforming an ordinary afternoon into an absurd action-packed adventure where minivan mayhem meets professional hitmen.”

The cast of Playdate further includes Sarah Chalke, Benjamin Pajak, Banks Pierce, Hiro Kanagawa, and Stephen Root.

The script comes from Neil Goldman, who also serves as an executive producer on the project alongside Ritchson, Dan Spilo, Michelle Meyers,  Alexis Garcia, Matthew Goldberg, Lee Broda, and Jamal Sannon. Greenfield, Jason Benoit, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Mark Fasano, and Jeffrey Greenstein serve as producers.

Greenfield made his feature film directorial debut in 2001 with The Animal starring Rob Schneider. Following that, he went on to make 2004’s The Girl Next Door, 2011’s Something Borrowed, and 2014’s Let’s Be Cops. His most recent film was 2020’s Half Brothers, while he has also helmed episodes of Aliens in America and The Neighbors.

Amazon MGM Studios’ Playdate will be available to stream on Prime Video on November 12, 2025.
