Pedro Pascal talks about one The Last of Us scene he can’t watch
Just like most of The Last of Us fans, Pedro Pascal also has a particular scene from Season 2 that he can’t bear to watch. The Hollywood heartthrob talked about the scene in a chat with Vanity Fair while discussing some of his most notable work.
Pascal was supposed to watch Joel’s last scene with Bella Ramsey (Ellie) from Season 2. The actor quickly said, “I don’t wanna see it.” He added that he would rather talk about it.
The last scene between the pair was not just an emotional moment for viewers but also for Pascal, who has developed a real-life friendship with Ramsey. The Narcos star revealed how the filming went for this scene.
He noted, “This was one of the hardest and easiest — that’s impossible to understand — one of the hardest and easiest days of work I’ve ever had.” Speaking of the filming process, Pascal added that the scene meant “things coming to an end, as far as getting to play Joel alongside Ellie.”
Viewers who have watched the show know the context of the scene where Ellie finally confronts Joel about the mass murder of Firefly members. After lying to Ellie for years, it was the first time that Joel truly opened up about what happened to all the Firefly members.
Explaining the cost of the truth, Pascal continued, “Recognizing the truth, and recognizing that the truth will, like, mean that Joel loses here — loses Ellie for good — but that he loves Ellie so much. He can’t lie to her again.”
The Game of Thrones actor also explained why he refuses to watch the scene. Pascal shared that the scene marked the end of his time on the show and depicted Joel potentially hurting Ellie. He said that the emotional weight of that pivotal moment, both for the characters and Pascal personally, makes it too heartbreaking for him to revisit.
