Diagnosed with long qt syndrome (LQTS), Ellie Frankenfield has been monitored remotely by cardiac care experts at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center since she was six months old. After being told that a pacemaker would be needed, Ellie and her mother, Kimmie, traveled from their hometown in North Carolina to Johns Hopkins for a pacemaker procedure. The comprehensive care team, including pediatric cardiologist Cardidad de la Uz and pediatric heart surgeon Danielle Gottlieb Sen, provided extensive care. Along with the clinicians, Hee Chol Cho is leading a team of researchers to engage biomedical principles that will provide innovative therapy to restore the heart’s function. Research is among the critical components of clinical care at the Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Clinical practitioners and award-winning scientists are doing groundbreaking research to help patients like Ellie live a full and healthy life.
