Netflix reveals the first look at Charlie Heaton’s surprise character in the Peaky Blinders sequel. The new series was announced last year, though details about its story remain scarce.

Who is Charlie Heaton playing in the Peaky Blinders sequel?

Netflix has revealed that Charlie Heaton will play Tommy Shelby’s son, Charles Shelby, in the Peaky Blinders sequel. The platform also revealed that the sequel will debut with six episodes. Heaton’s Charles Shelby will be joined by a recast Duke Shelby. Heaton is best known for playing Jonathan Byers across all five seasons of Stranger Things.

“Having fought a violent war, much of it behind enemy lines, Charles Shelby is now embracing normality,” reads Netflix’s announcement accompanying the reveal. “He hasn’t seen his half-brother Duke – played by Jamie Bell (All of Us Strangers, Rocketman) – in years. Charles severed all ties to the Peaky Blinders gang, and the hedonistic Shelby lifestyle. But can you ever escape your own blood?”

“In this new era of Peaky Blinders, set a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” reads the description. “This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy.” The series is currently in production at Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham.

Heaton and Bell are joined by Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski in her TV debut, with Netflix confirming that details of their roles will be revealed at a later date. The new show follows six seasons of Peaky Blinders and its sequel movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

Peaky Blinders is written and created by Steven Knight and produced by Banijay U.K. companies Kudos and Garrison Drama. Cillian Murphy also remains connected to the franchise as an executive producer.

The Peaky Blinders sequel series will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and on Netflix globally.
