Oscars 2025: Why Harrison Ford Dropped Out as a Presenter
Cynthia Erivo is that girl at the Oscars 2025.
Heaven knows Wicked actress has had some jaw dropping looks amid the press run for the film adaptation, but her latest proves she actually is born for the rose and the pearl. As for the proof, the Broadway star donned a gorgeous dark green Louis Vuitton dress. (See every star who walked the red carpet here.)
The 38-year-old is ready to have her moment as she goes up against I’m Still Here’s Fernanda Torres, The Substance’s Demi Moore, Emilia Pérez’s Karla Sofía Gascon and Anora’s Mikey Madison for the Best Actress in a Leading Role accolade.
But while the jury is still out on who will take home one of the night’s biggest honors, Cynthia already felt she defied gravity by receiving a nod.
“Moments like this don’t come along very often, and when they do, it is sacrilege to let them pass by without a moment of gratitude,” Cynthia wrote in a Jan. 23 Instagram post. “I am grateful, grateful to @theacademy, grateful to be a part of something that makes people feel seen, grateful to be a cog in the wheel of a piece that makes us believe in magic, grateful to have experienced a dream come true, and deeply, deeply grateful for this unbelievable recognition.”
This evening will also see Cynthia team up with her Wicked counterpart Ariana Grande—also nominated at the ceremony—for a performance during the Oscars 2025 broadcast. The performance will only be the latest exemplification of the actresses’ bond, which was cemented by playing the witchy duo.

As for whether their friendship will continue once their Wicked ride is over?
“We were lucky because we got to meet each other on this project, but when the project goes away, we're still good friends,” Cynthia shared to E! News at the SAG Awards last month. “That's still my sister. It's not this that's keeping us together. We speak to each other outside of work. We're on the phone all the time, texting, FaceTiming, whatever.”
And Cynthia—who is known for her elaborate nail art—detailed how the pair manage to keep in touch amid their busy schedules, adding, “I literally FaceTime her when I do my nails. That's like a standing appointment.”
For Ariana’s part, she has emphasized that there is no one more fortunate than she to have Cynthia in her life.
“Your brilliance is never ending and you deserve every flower (tulip) in every garden,” Ariana wrote to Cynthia via Instagram after nabbing her Best Supporting Actress nod. “I love you unconditionally, always.”
