One of the things that stood out to us while looking through **Fictitious: The Cryptid Creation Strategy Game** wasn’t just the beautiful artwork or the mythical creatures—it was that the designers created two different ways to enjoy the game.

At its core, **Fictitious** is a competitive strategy card game where players step into the boots of Cryptozoologists, racing to discover rare creature parts, trade mysterious eggs, use potions, and craft legendary new mythical creatures in an effort to earn the most reputation.

But the designers didn’t stop there.

In addition to the core game, **Fictitious** also includes a **family-friendly game variant** designed for younger players. This simplified version focuses on color recognition, memory, and creativity while still preserving the fun of building unique creatures.

Another aspect we appreciate is how approachable the game appears to be.

According to the creators, the rules are easy to understand, allowing players to begin playing in less than five minutes while continuing to discover new strategies every round.

Players combine creature parts to maximize points, decide when to use one of their four unique potions to help themselves—or hinder opponents—and collect eggs that can either replenish potions or score additional points at the end of the game.

Fictitious also features a world filled with hand-drawn mythical creatures.

The creators note that all of the artwork was illustrated without the use of AI, helping create a unique world filled with imaginative creatures and lore.

Created by a Small Family Team

One of our favorite parts of the campaign is the story behind it.

Fictitious is the work of a small, family-run team from New Zealand brought together by a shared love of board games, storytelling, mythology, and creativity.

What began as Anoushka’s passion for illustrating mythical creatures eventually grew into a collaborative family project, with each member contributing their own expertise to bring the game to life.
