Steven Knight shared a promising update about the future of Peaky Blinders as the franchise prepares for its next chapter. The creator confirmed major progress on the new series while teasing that audiences may not expect what comes next.

According to Deadline, Steven Knight shared a major production update about the new Peaky Blinders sequel series during a BAFTA interview on May 11, 2026.

Knight confirmed filming is nearing completion after production started in March 2026. He said, “We’re filming the next series at the moment that is going really well.” Knight added, “We will have it in the can in about, well, in a few weeks.” The update signals that the project is moving toward post-production and future release planning.

The sequel series was officially announced in October 2025. Meanwhile, Netflix and BBC One are producing the drama through Kudos and Garrison Drama. Cillian Murphy also remains connected to the franchise as an executive producer.

Additionally, the continuation follows the original series, which ended after six seasons in 2022. The project also follows the film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which streams on Netflix.

Steven Knight also hinted at the tone and quality of the upcoming episodes. He stated, “I think people are gonna be pleasantly surprised on how it’s turned out.” Furthermore, production reports confirmed the series will introduce a new generation of Shelby family members.

The story takes place during the 1950s in post-war Birmingham. At the same time, the narrative explores rebuilding efforts after World War II and rising criminal conflicts across the city. Jamie Bell leads the sequel as Duke Shelby, Tommy Shelby’s oldest son. Alongside him, Charlie Heaton, Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and Lucy Karczewski joined the cast.

Knight previously confirmed the sequel will contain two six-episode seasons. He also said the story remains rooted in Birmingham while focusing on a changing city and family legacy. With filming nearing completion, additional release details could arrive soon from Netflix and BBC One.
