Agatha Christie‘s Hercule Poirot has found a new face after Kenneth Branagh‘s most recent portrayals. The actor playing Poirot in the BBC’s upcoming TV show based on the popular fictional detective has finally been revealed.

Who has been cast as Hercule Poirot in the new Agatha Christie TV show?

It’s been confirmed that Edward Bluemel, best known for his roles in Killing Eve, My Lady Jane, and Sex Education, will play Hercule Poirot in the BBC TV show Hercule, reports Deadline. The actor has also appeared in We Might Regret This, Belgravia: The Next Chapter, and A Discovery of Witches, among others.

Interestingly, Bluemel, at 33, will be the youngest actor to play Hercule Poirot in a live-action project. The most recent iteration of the Belgian detective on screen was brought to life by Kenneth Branagh. He both starred in and directed a trilogy of movies, including Murder on the Orient Express (2017), Death on the Nile (2022), and A Haunting in Venice (2023).

BBC’s upcoming Hercule TV show is set to release for streaming on BritBox, which is also co-producing the project. The show is confirmed to have three seasons. The official logline for the series reads, “The series is an intimate study of Hercule the man and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars. The series takes a magnifying glass to three of Christie’s most celebrated stories, while also charting Hercule’s burgeoning friendship with Captain Arthur Hastings, his early encounters with Scotland Yard’s James Japp, and introducing him to one particular nemesis.”

Hercule has Benji Walters and Jonny Campbell as the executive producers. Additionally, James Prichard, Rebecca Durbin, Damien Timmer, Nick Lambon, Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar, and Stephen Nye are also executive producing.

Prichard expressed his excitement after Bluemel joined the cast as Hercule Poirot. “Edward Bluemel is an extremely talented performer and will make a great addition to the long line of actors that have played this celebrated character,” he said.

The Hercule TV show has yet to receive an official release date window.
