Netflix has revealed a shocking statistic about its users’ viewing habits, highlighting just how successful anime movies and TV series have become for the streaming giant.

During the Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Netflix stated that over 50% of its subscribers watch anime. As Netflix has over 300 million paid members globally, this means that 150 million people are using the service to watch anime content.

Netflix also revealed that anime was viewed over 1 billion times in 2024, making it a record-breaking year with anime viewership having tripled since 2019. Last year saw the release of major series such as Dandadan, with reliably popular shows such as Naruto, One Piece, and Demon Slayer continuing to garner tons of views.

Netflix shows off upcoming anime

Netflix used the event to drop more information about its anime line-up, including Sakamoto Days and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Sakamoto Days was a mainstay of the service’s top 10 shows in Japan, and looks set to have a similar impact with U.S. audiences. Edgerunners 2 is the sequel to the 2022 smash hit series, which helped renew interest in CD Projekt Red’s controversial first-person shooter video game.

Also included among Netflix’s anime showcase was the whimsical stop-motion adventure My Melody & Kuromi, the third series of the gods vs. humans show Record of Ragnarok, and the second part of Beastars’ final season, which had its release date window revealed.

The streamer’s announced slate of anime content is as follows:

  • Leviathan (July 10)
  • Sakamoto Days (July 14)
  • My Melody & Kuromi (July 24)
  • The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity (September 7)
  • Record of Ragnarok Season 3 (December 2025)
  • Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 (Coming soon)
  • Beastars Final Season (Coming 2026)
