Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s 2025 supernatural horror movie starring Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke has finally found a new streaming home. During its theatrical run, the film garnered an approval rating of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 198 reviews. Even though it received mostly positive reviews from critics, the sequel’s rating is still 9% lower than the first installment’s Certified Fresh score.

What Ethan Hawke horror movie is now on Netflix?

As of today, Hawke’s 2025 R-rated horror film Black Phone 2 is now officially available to stream on Netflix. In the sequel, Hawke reprised his villainous role as The Grabber, who returns as a vengeful ghost to continue terrorizing Mason Thames’ Finney after the latter killed him at the end of the 2021 movie. The cast also included Madeleine McGraw as Gwen, Demián Bichir as Armando, Arianna Rivas as Mustang, Miguel Mora as Ernesto, Jeremy Davies as Terrence, Maev Beaty as Barbara, Graham Abbey as Kenneth, and more.

“True evil transcends death, and the black phone rings again as The Grabber torments Finn from beyond the grave by menacing his sister Gwen,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “Haunted by horrific visions, the teens set out to stop their psychological torture only to uncover a disturbing secret as they confront a killer who has only grown more powerful in death.”

The movie was directed by Scott Derrickson, who co-wrote the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill. Derrickson, Cargill, and Jason Blum were producing the movie, while Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld served as executive producers. The sequel grossed around $132 million worldwide at the box office against a reported budget of $30 million.
