Marcus Mumford isn’t allowed to listen to music in his home for one very specific reason!

If you didn’t know, the 39-year-old Mumford & Sons frontman has been married to wife Carey Mulligan since 2012 and they share three children.

While appearing on the July 27 episode of the SmartLess podcast, Marcus revealed that the 41-year-old Oscar-nominated actress prefers that they don’t play music in their home because he gets too distracted.

“We had this conversation the other day,” he recalled. “We had a party at home. It was Carey’s birthday, and someone came, and they were like, ‘There’s no music.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, we don’t really play music.'”

Marcus explained, “I can’t do background music because if music’s on, I want to lean in and listen to it. And I can’t switch that part of my brain off. So then Carey doesn’t like having music in the house because I just stop having a conversation.”

As for what causes the distraction, the Grammy winner said that he tends to analyze music while listening.

Marcus also gave some insight into the type of music he prefers.

“I listen to probably mostly new music,” he shared. “And if I’m on my own, that’s when I listen to music.”

During another recent interview, Marcus shared the sweet story of how he and Carey first met decades ago as kids.
