James Gunn has returned to direct the next major DCU project, Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The upcoming movie has already surpassed 2025’s Superman in one surprising way following its production wrap.

Gunn announced the wrap on Threads, sharing two images from the shoot along with a thank-you note. A DC fan picked up on a surprising detail connecting to the filming days of the two films. They wrote, “That was like 90 days of shooting or so, no?” The fan then noted that Superman (2025) took more than 100 days to finish filming and said that the new movie appears to have finished faster.

The director confirmed the number shortly after. “I think 93,” he replied. “I think it’s one more than Superman.”

The principal photography for the upcoming Superman movie began on April 20, 2026, and concluded on August 26, 2026. However, the 93 days refer to actual shooting days rather than the total calendar period. The production, therefore, did not film continuously throughout those four months.

Gunn also shared photos from the final day of filming. One picture shows Nicholas Hoult appearing to swim in a lake after the final shot. Another feature features Gunn and members of the production crew gathered together at a scenic location.

The highly anticipated sequel will see David Corenswet reprising his role as Superman and Nicholas Hoult returning as Lex Luthor. Man of Tomorrow shifts their former rivalry into a completely new dynamic. The former enemies must reluctantly team up to face a bigger threat: the superintelligent alien android Brainiac.

Lars Eidinger joins the cast as Brainiac. Rachel Brosnahan will also return as Lois Lane.

The cast further includes Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific
