Written during a solo trip to Siena and developed from years of voice notes and sketches, the album explores identity, growing older, love, and loss. Its songs include opener “3310,” the Leif Vollebekk-sampling “Tallahassee,” and “Chelsea Girls,” which examines British culture through tabloid sensationalism. Discussing the record, Jamie said: “Everyone has a part of themselves they keep at arm’s length, even from the people they love.” He added: “This album is me trying to find that again.”
At the album’s center is a cover of “Ghosts,” written by Paul Weller and originally recorded by The Jam. Jamie rediscovered the song while struggling to rehearse for his Finsbury Park show in 2022. Its opening lines prompted him to reconsider parts of his identity he had kept at a distance, helping set the new album in motion. “Slowly I found a way. A song genuinely helped me put my life back together and get to where I am now,” he said.
“Waist 36, Leg 32” addresses guilt, masculinity, and consumerism. The single was named Jack Saunders’ Hottest Record and appears on the EA Sports FC 27 soundtrack. Jamie cited The Clash’s Mick Jones as an inspiration, describing the song as a fable in the vein of “Stay Free,” from the band’s 1978 album Give ’Em Enough Rope. Its accompanying video places Cooper in the role of a prospective Jamie T impersonator.
Jamie is also marking the album’s release with acoustic shows in Dundee, Edinburgh, Middlesbrough, Nottingham, Norwich, Kingston, Bristol, Oxford, and Southampton. A UK tour follows in December, beginning in Birmingham on December 6 and 7 and ending in Brighton on December 20. Other stops include Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, and two Glasgow shows on December 15 and 17. Two London performances have moved from Olympia London to Wembley Stadium, according to the release.
