LISA is kicking off her new era with a tribute to her Thai roots!

The 29-year-old BLACKPINK superstar is set to release her new single “SaWaDiKa” on Thursday (September 3), marking the first taste of her upcoming EP PRESS PLAY.

Ahead of the song’s release, LISA shared several previews of the track, revealing the first lyrics from the song.

What does “SaWaDiKa” mean in Thai?

“SaWaDiKa” is a stylized spelling of “sawatdee ka” (?????????), a polite greeting used by women in Thailand that means “hello.”

The title is especially fitting for LISA, who was born and raised in Thailand before moving to South Korea and eventually making her debut as a member of BLACKPINK.

Her new era has already incorporated several references to her home country. Ahead of announcing the song, LISA launched a mysterious “HELLO SAWADIKA” campaign, while billboards appeared in cities around the world.

What are LISA’s “SaWaDiKa” lyrics?

In the preview of the song, LISA opens by greeting listeners in both English and Thai before delivering a confident verse filled with references to her wealth, fame and superstar status.

“Hello, ????????? / Yeah, you know my wrist is cold,” she begins.

She goes on to reference a timepiece from Geneva, her superstar status and a Ferrari before declaring herself “La Lalisa, la diva” and repeating the Thai greeting.

The lyrics appear to use “SaWaDiKa” as both a literal greeting and a confident introduction to LISA‘s new era, while nodding to her Thai identity.
