Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAcademy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has opened up about his next project with director Martin Scorsese, which is a film adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel What Happens at Night. Before this, DiCaprio and Scorsese’s most recent movie together was 2023’s acclaimed crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon.
What did Leonardo DiCaprio say about his new Martin Scorsese movie?
During a recent interview with The Big Picture podcast, DiCaprio shared that Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 psychological thriller Vertigo is actually one of the reference points they’re using for Scorsese’s upcoming What Happens at Night movie. The classic movie was led by James Stewart and Kim Novak.
“I’m working on a film where [Vertigo] is a reference point. Had a conversation with Marty about it,” DiCaprio said. “Any time you get to see and talk movies with him, it’s a religious experience. But when he talks about a movie that he’s still trying to figure out, he’s like, you know, ‘Each decade that movie means something different to me. Is she a ghost, or is she not a ghost? Is she there? Is he a ghost?’ So yeah, there’s something we’re working on that’s a reference to that.”
What Happens at Night will be directed by Scorsese from a screenplay written by Patrick Marber. Besides DiCaprio, the movie will also star Jennifer Lawrence, who previously worked with the Titanic actor on the 2021 comedy Don’t Look Up. Even though Scorsese is serving as a producer on Lawrence’s Die, My Love movie, the upcoming project will be the first time that the acclaimed filmmaker will be directing Lawrence. Apple Original Films is in negotiations to finance and produce the projects alongside StudioCanal.
“The story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby. They check into a cavernous, largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters, including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman, and a charismatic faith healer,” reads the movie’s initial synopsis (via Deadline). “Nothing is quite as it seems in this strange, frozen world. As the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together.”
The movie currently has no target release date yet, but it is expected to start production in January 2026.
