DC Studios and HBO Max dropped a new Lanterns teaser trailer and confirmed release date. Unlike the previous teaser, the new footage leans more on action and worldbuilding, while revealing more about the Green Lantern Corps lore.

Lanterns will premiere on August 16, 2026, on HBO, followed by streaming on HBO Max.

What happens in the new Lanterns teaser trailer?

The new Lanterns teaser trailer opens with Hal teaching John about the various use cases of the power ring, with a breathtaking shot of Hal using the ring to create a shield from what looks like an orbital laser. He then reveals he didn’t have to get interviewed by anyone for possession of the ring, hinting that John is being trained as Hal’s successor. Besides plenty of action, the teaser trailer also gives fans a first look at Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner from Superman.

One of the most surprising shots shows Hal Jordan fully suited as a Green Lantern visiting another planet, which hints that the story has galactic repercussions. The teaser trailer also offers a first look at Laura Linney without revealing what character she is playing in the show.

Besides Pierre and Chandler, Lanterns stars Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones.

The Lanterns pilot is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, who are co-creators for the series. Mundy serves as Lanterns’ showrunner. James Hawes directed the first two episodes. Other directors include Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. The series is executive produced by Mundy, Lindelof, King, James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes.

Following Lanterns, Aaron Pierre will reprise the role of John Stewart in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow.
