Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayKelly Ripa, Mark Consuelos’ Son Michael Is Dad’s Twin During Surprise Live! Moment
Kelly Ripa may not have gotten a car from Oprah Winfrey, but she did receive a valuable piece of career advice.
The Live with Kelly and Mark co-host revealed the wise words of advice she received when she questioned if it was time to finally end her talk show after 25 years.
“Let me give Oprah credit,” Kelly told Variety in an interview published on Feb. 25. “She left her show at the 25-year mark, and I said to her, ‘Should this be my signal?’ She’s like, ‘Don’t leave. Don’t do it. Right now, you’ll regret it.’”
The 55-year-old continued, “She said, ‘With you and Mark, the dynamic, the show is more important than ever. People really relate to it, and they need that in this world of a lot of darkness and an endless 24-hour, never-ending news cycle.’”
Kelly first took Live’s co-hosting reins in 2001 beside Regis Philbin. After he left the show in 2011, Kelly was joined by Michael Strahan from 2012 until 2016 and Ryan Seacrest from 2017 to 2023. Her husband Mark Consuelos, who made several guest host appearances through the years, officially joined the show as her permanent co-host in April 2023.
With Oprah’s advice in mind, Kelly said she can’t help but wonder when she’ll officially walk away from the talk show—but today is not that day.
“I need to actually ask her, ‘You said not to leave at 25, but what year? What are we thinking? Give me an idea of how far beyond 25 I should go,’” she quipped. “But I always say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We are really having a very good time.”
“I want to see this show stay on the air as long as linear TV lives,” the All My Children alum continued. “The show is far more important than any two hosts, so I just want the show to live forever because it’s a really, really great piece of history. It’s also a great way for people to have worry-free TV that they can watch with their kids.”

It’s no surprise that Kelly would want to be part of a program that is family friendly. After all, she and Mark share three children together—son Michael, 28, and Joaquin, 22, and daughter Lola, 24—and their kids often make cameos on the talk show.
In fact, Michael recently made a surprise appearance during the Feb. 20 episode in honor of Kelly’s 25-year run on the show. He showed up with a bouquet of flowers for his mom before reminiscing on some of his favorite memories over the years.
“There’s so many,” Michael said. “But if I had to narrow it down to just a handful, I’d say the swamp tour in Louisiana, where I threw the snake on you. That was pretty awesome.”

Though Kelly and Mark’s other kids could not be there in person—Lola is currently living in London and Joaquin is rehearsing for his Broadway debut in Death of a Salesman—they recorded video messages for their mom, which were also shared during the episode.
“I’m so proud of the life that you’ve made for yourself and for Michael, Quino and me and dad,” Lola said in her recorded message. “We really wouldn’t have anything without you, and I think a lot of people would agree with me that there would be a lot less joy in this world without you and your pretty face on the air every day.”
Joaquin sweetly added, “Love you, proud of you. Here’s to 25 more.”

History Repeating
In August 2020, Kelly Ripa shared an epic recreation of an old family photo from 2003 on Instagram. With youngest son Joaquin on her lap and older kids Michael and Lola perfectly in place, we'd say they nailed it despite the fact that, as Kelly noted, "objects may appear larger."
