Jon Gosselin is reacting to the release of his son Collin Gosselin‘s memoir.

The 22-year-old son recently released his new tell-all memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, where he made major abuse allegations against his mom Kate Gosselin, including claims that she once used zip ties on his wrists and ankles and locked him in a basement.

“First and foremost, I couldn’t be more proud of my son’s heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse,” Jon, 49, shared in a statement to Us Weekly in reaction to Collin‘s book.

When the book was first released earlier this week, Kate, 51, shared a comment on TikTok defending herself and her parenting while responding to comments about Collin‘s allegations.

“I know rational logical ppl or anyone who has dealt with mental illness understands what’s going on here,” Kate wrote.

In his statement, Jon also hit back at Kate‘s claims that Collin is “mentally ill.”

“Also, let me be very clear: If you continue to falsely label my son Collin as ‘mentally ill,’ you will be held accountable,” Jon said. “As you know, Collin has been evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists, and that narrative is proven categorically untrue.”

The former reality star noted, “Repeating false claims about his mental health is damaging to his reputation, his credibility and his future.”

“Consider this fair warning: The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over,” Jon concluded.

Jon‘s rep also released a statement, saying, “Jon has remained quiet to give Collin the space to share his story in his own voice. He fully supports his son and is incredibly proud of him. Collin deserves to be heard and treated with respect, and Jon stands firmly beside him.”

Earlier this summer, Kate explained why she wouldn’t be suing her estranged son for defamation.
