A mythical set of live John Coltrane recordings, the Tiberi Tapes, will finally be released this year. Recorded at jazz clubs in New York and Philadelphia between 1961 and 1965 by saxophonist Frank Tiberi, the Tiberi Tapes have long been relegated to a private collection. But as part of a year-long celebration of Coltrane’s 100th birthday in September, the set will land on Impulse! as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18, ahead of a wider release this September.

To celebrate the centennial, Impulse! has also shared a new video for the A Love Supreme opener “Acknowledgement.” Directed by Kamasi Washington and Mitski collaborator AG Rojas, it features a faithful recreation of New Jersey’s Van Gelder Studios on the day A Love Supreme was recorded there. Check out the video below.

The “Coltrane 100” programming will also include reissues of classics like Ascension, Africa/Brass and Impressions; a new best-of compilation highlighting his 1957 and 1958 sessions; and a sound installation overseen by hi-fi specialist Devon Turnbull at New York’s Cooper Hewitt. A September 23 show at the Hollywood Bowl, “Coltrane 100: Legacy,” will feature orchestral adaptations of Coltrane’s work from Wynton Marsalis, saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin, and a 16-piece symphony. This year, the John and Alice Coltrane Home in Dix Hills, New York, and the John Coltrane House in Philadelphia will also open to the public for the first time.
