Josh O’Connor has touched on the rumors that he might be playing the next James Bond, amidst jokes from the actor that he could be playing him.

What did Josh O’Connor say about the James Bond rumors?

Speaking to Deadline, O’Connor was asked about the rumors he could be playing James Bond in the highly anticipated next entry, which will introduce a new actor playing Bonds. O’Connor said that he knows just about as much as anyone else, despite jokes he previously made.

“I have no thoughts, really,” O’Connor said. “The truth is that … I think in the space of a week, I made a joke about, wouldn’t it be funny if I played Bond? Then, me and Daniel [Craig] did an Actors on Actors, and then something else happened, and then suddenly I was James Bond. If I am Bond, I don’t know about it.”

O’Connor’s jokes about playing Bond quickly fueled rumors that he could be tapped for the pivotal role, but it’s still unclear who will next step into the iconic character. Daniel Craig last played the role in 2021’s No Time to Die, and ever since, rumors about who would play James Bond next have swirled.

Throughout the past four years, actors like O’Connor, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Cosmo Jarvis, James Norton, and more have all been teased as potentially being eyed for the role. As of now, however, things are being kept incredibly close to the chest, with Barbara Broccoli (who controls the James Bond film franchise alongside her half-brother Michael G. Wilson) not saying anything on the matter.
